Video calls on the Cisco Model 9951

Your Cisco 9951 desk phone comes with a video camera. You can make one-way video calls to another video phone (where only your receiving party sees you) or two-way (where both parties can see each other).

Place a video call

To make a video call, dial the number as usual. The video camera is activated by default (also known as Auto Transmit). If your call recipient also has a Cisco 9951 phone, you can see each other.

Turn off Auto Transmit

If you don't want your calls to automatically stream video, you can change the settings with the Applications button.

To turn off Auto Transmit:

Press the Applications button.
Select Accessories.
Highlight Cisco Unified Camera.
Press the Turn Off softkey.

To enable Auto Transmit again, press the Turn On softkey.

Customize your video and audio

During a call, you can make these adjustments to your video and audio (described below):

Enable full-screen video
Swap between views
Position the picture-in-picture
Hide video
Mute video
Mute video and audio
Mute audio
Block camera
Adjust the camera view area

Enable full-screen video

During a call, a menu of buttons appears at the bottom of the video window. Select the Full Screen softkey by pressing the phone button just below it. The menu changes to display a different set of functions. To return to a normal-sized screen, select the Minimize softkey.

Use the physical buttons on the phone to interact with the softkeys. From left to right: Full Screen, Hide Video, Mute Video, and Picture-in-Picture.

In the Full Screen view, the button options change again. Select Minimize to return to the default video window.

Swap between views

A two-way video call displays two pictures: one is a picture of you and the other is your caller. Typically, your caller occupies the larger window, and your own picture is nested in the smaller window. However, you can swap views and see yourself in the larger window (and your caller in the smaller one) by pressing the Swap button (shown above). Press Swap again to return to the previous view.

Position the picture-in-picture

Press the Picture-in-Picture (PIP) softkey to position the PIP window in the quadrant of your choice. Press the phone button just below the PIP softkey to move it up, down, left, or right.

These PIP icons indicate that the picture-in-picture screen is located in the lower-right and upper-left quadrant of the screen.

Hide video

Press the Hide Video softkey to stop displaying the video feed on your phone's screen. You won't see your caller, but your caller will still see you. (If you don't want your callers to see you, press the Mute Video button instead.)

Mute video

If you don't want to transmit video to your caller, press the Mute Video softkey. The softkey turns red and becomes an Unmute Video softkey, and you should see a red light on your camera. To turn the video back on, press the red Unmute Video button.


Use the Mute Video softkey when you don't want to be seen, but you still want to be heard.	Pressing the red Unmute Video button during a call enables your video transmission again.

Mute video and audio

To mute both the video and audio at once, press the Mute button.

The Mute button is not a softkey, but a real button on the phone.

Mute audio

To mute only the audio, start by pressing the Mute button on your phone and then press the Unmute Video softkey. You will now be seen, but not heard.

The Mute button suppresses both the video and audio if it's used alone. To mute just the audio, press the Unmute Video softkey next.

Block camera

Another way to suppress video transmission is to close the shutter on your video camera. Rotate the lens clockwise to close the shutter, and counter clockwise to open it again.

Adjust the camera view area

Use the Applications button and the Navigation pad on your phone to adjust your camera view.

To adjust your camera view:

Press the Applications button.
Select Accessories.
Highlight Cisco Unified Camera.
Select View Area.
Use the arrows on the Navigation pad to increase or decrease the view area.
Press the Save softkey.
